Abstract

|
|
Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) is a fatal demyelinating disease caused by the reactivation of human polyomavirus JC in immunosuppressed patients. We report a systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patient diagnosed with definite PML after titration of mycophenolate mofetil based on characteristic MRI findings. After all, the patient eventually went through a fatal clinical course. PML should be considered in the differential diagnosis if SLE patient presents with new-onset focal neurological deficits, even during low-dose immunosuppressive therapy.
